Beginnings

I fell in love with journalism through the student newspaper at West Chester University, The Quad. The Features Editor reached out to me about needing more writers for the section. In response, I started with a column in search of the best desserts in the town of West Chester, PA. When the position opened up, I took over the role of Features Editor myself. Later, I moved up the ladder as the Managing Editor. The best part? I never stopped writing!

For the opening of Duck Donuts in West Chester, PA, I was invited to a press preview where I got to see how the donuts were made, interview the owners and even take my own dozen home!

Cupcakes

My second article in the features column that started it all, "Adventure for the Perfect Treat," focused on Dia Doce, a beloved cupcake shop in the middle of Downtown West Chester, PA.

Design

Mental health is an issue that I hold close to my heart. I took the angle from a first-person perspective to lead into a discussion about an international problem.

College Friends

Looking back on my years so close to graduation, I realized that lots of my worries at the start of college were focused around finding friendships. Using my feature-writing talents, I gave some advice for younger students in the form of a listicle!

Noticing the lack of counseling staff, I interviewed the director of the counseling center at West Chester University. A few months later, the president of student affairs sent a release informing students that two more counselors hired for the following academic year. It was the first time that my journalism created change.

As someone who would not self-describe as very athletic, writing about sports seemed very daunting. However, when writing it in a way that was familiar to me, like a feature, it all came so easy.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was impossible to stand by. Telling the stories of those who were facing this virus day-in and day-out was the least I could do to thank healthcare professionals and grocery store clerks that ensured the world kept turning even when a pandemic struck.
